Arranz and the Environment...

The refurbishment of Arranz is complete, but as time goes on we hope to improve the way in which we interact with the environment.  Already we have taken the following steps;

  • Loft insulation – reducing heat loss to the atmosphere.
  • Sealed-unit double glazing throughout - reducing heat loss to the atmosphere.
  • Energy-efficient Appliances - reducing electricity consumption
  • Energy Saving Light Bulbs where possible – reducing electricity consumption.
  • Low Flush WC’s – reducing mains water consumption
  • Bath replaced with a corner shower unit to reduce mains water consumption - A 5 minute shower uses about a third of the water of a bath.
  • Rainwater Butt to reduce mains water consumption in the garden.
  • Compost Bin to cut down on refuse disposal and land-fill.
  • Reusable shopping bags provided.

In the future we hope to provide;

  • Roof-mounted Solar Panels to supplement domestic hot water.
  • Mini Wind Turbine to supplement main electrical supply

If you decide to stay at Arranz, you can help in a few simple ways;

  • Recycle – there is a glass and paper bank located in the public car park in the Village Centre, near the Fire station.  The walk to the recycling point is well worthwhile if you call at the Old Inn on the way back and enjoy a glass of the local brew
  • Switch off – Switch off lights and appliances when not in use.
  • Full Load - Half-load programmes on dishwashers and washing machines use more than half the water and energy of a full load. Therefore, wait until you have a full load before switching the machine on.
  • Running Tap - Try not to leave the tap running while you brush your teeth, shave or wash your hands, as this can waste up to 5 litres of water per minute.

Thank you.
